What is supported living?

What is supported living?

Supported living is a model of care designed around independence. The person holds their own tenancy and receives care and support as a separate service. It's not a care home, and it's not a one-off domiciliary visit it's a life lived in your own home, with the right support around you.

For some people, that means a few hours a week. For others, it means 24/7 support with waking nights. The level changes with the need. What stays the same is that the person is in charge of their day.

Key difference from a care home

In a care home, accommodation and care are bundled together. In supported living, they are legally separate giving the person more rights, more choice, and a clearer sense of home.

Who it's for

Who supported living is for

We provide supported living for adults aged 18 and over whose situations include, but are not limited to:

  • Adults with a learning disability (mild, moderate, or severe) ready for more independence
  • Autistic adults who benefit from a sensory-aware home and predictable routine
  • Adults living with a long-term mental health condition stepping down from inpatient care or hospital
  • Adults with complex or co-occurring needs requiring specialist staff and structured support
  • Young adults transitioning from children's services, the family home, or residential care
  • People needing short-stay or respite placements that protect routine and continuity

If you're unsure whether supported living is the right model, the first conversation is the right place to start. We'll tell you honestly and if we're not the right fit, we'll help you find who is.

Our approach

Our approach to supported living

Person-centred from day one

The plan starts with the person. Their goals, communication style, routines, what a good day looks like.

Strengths-based working

We start with what the person can do, and build from there not from a list of deficits.

Positive behaviour support (PBS)

Where behaviour communicates an unmet need, we use PBS to understand the message and respond proactively, not punitively.

Trauma-informed practice

Many people we support carry past experiences that shape today. We hold that with care.
