Respite and short-stay supported living
Planned breaks. Emergency placements. Continuity of care. White Oak Care provides short-stay supported living for adults across the UK so the person we support has a safe, welcoming home for a few nights or a few weeks, and the people who care for them can rest.
What respite supported living means
Respite is short-stay supported living a planned or emergency placement that gives the person a safe, welcoming home for a few nights, a week, or several weeks, and gives their main carers a real break.
It is not a holding service. It is a properly planned stay with the same standard of person-centred support, trained teams, and safeguarding as any of our longer placements. Routines are protected. Communication preferences are honoured. The person stays in charge of their day.
We offer two main types: planned respite (booked in advance for regular or one-off breaks) and emergency respite (urgent placements where the usual care arrangement has broken down).
Not a holding service
Respite at White Oak Care is delivered to the same standard as any longer placement same trained team, same safeguarding, same person-centred approach.

Planned and emergency respite
We offer two distinct respite pathways. Both are delivered to the same standard of care.
Planned respite
Booked in advance for regular weekends, one-off breaks, or a couple of weeks across the year. We work with the family or main carer ahead of the stay to learn the person's routines, communication style, food preferences, medication, and what helps. The first visit is usually a short familiarisation visit, then a planned overnight, then the booked stay. Regular respite users get continuity the same room where possible, the same team where possible.
Emergency respite
For urgent situations where the usual care arrangement has broken down for example, a family carer in hospital, a sudden bereavement, or a placement crisis. We respond the same day where we can, with an honest answer about whether we can safely take the placement and how quickly. Where we can take it, we do without the person walking into something cold.
