Specialist support for adults with a learning disability
White Oak Care provides evidence-based, person-centred support for adults with a learning disability across the UK. We start with the person their strengths, communication style, and what a good life looks like for them.
What is learning disability support?
A learning disability affects the way a person learns, communicates, and processes information throughout their life. It is not the same as a learning difficulty, and no two people with a learning disability are alike. Our role is to understand the individual not to apply a category.
Our learning disability support can be delivered in the person's own home, in a supported living setting, or as part of a shared living arrangement. The level of support is matched to the person from a few hours a week to round-the-clock, complex care.
Person-centred by law and by practice
The Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities all place the individual at the centre. So do we not as a compliance exercise, but as the only approach that actually works.

Who this service is for
We provide specialist support for adults aged 18 and over whose situations include, but are not limited to:
- Adults with a mild, moderate, severe, or profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD)
- Autistic adults with a learning disability who benefit from structured, sensory-aware support
- People with a learning disability and co-occurring mental health conditions
- Adults with complex or dual diagnosis needs requiring specialist, multi-agency working
- People transitioning from children's services, the family home, residential care, or hospital
- Individuals with a history of placement breakdown where a fresh, honest start is needed
Not sure if this service is the right fit? The first conversation is the place to find out. We will be honest with you and if we're not the right match, we'll help you find who is.

Our approach to learning disability support
Person-centred from day one
Every plan starts with the person their goals, communication style, sensory needs, routines, and what a good day looks like for them.
Strengths-based working
We start with what the person can do, and build from there not from a list of deficits or what they can't do.
Positive behaviour support (PBS)
Where behaviour communicates an unmet need, we use PBS to understand the message and respond proactively, not punitively.
Total communication
No single communication method works for everyone. We use words, signs, symbols, objects, and technology to make every interaction accessible.
Family and network involvement
Families and carers who know the person best are part of the team, not observers. We keep communication open and honest.
